DEAR EDUCATOR

Expand the horizons of your students outside the classroom without planning a field trip.

We have found many teachers taking advantage of events within their community to supplement school work.  Two Lake County Parks’ activities fit very well within this concept.  They are the WWII Tribute at Buckley Homestead on May 2 & 3, 2009 and the Voyageur Rendezvous at the Grand Kankakee Marsh on May 16 & 17, 2009.  Both are active, colorful, and jam packed with information.  You may design any extra credit out-of-classroom experience for many of the activities in the Lake County Parks.

Here’s how some teachers do it.

*  They compile a page of questions that complement school work about American history or social studies pertinent to an event.

*  They recommend the student’s family take the student to the event.

*  Some instructors design the project as extra credit, some as a good experience to enhance their learning.

*  Either way, it is an excellent supplement to in-class work.

The Lake County Parks offers many activities that your students can do independently.  See the web at www.lakecountyparks.com for information about the variety of ways outside activities can work for you – and most importantly, for them.

Whether it is history or nature, check out the resources in the Lake County Parks.
