Outdoor Education Programmer/Interpretive Naturalist

Job Functions:

Responsibilities include participation in all facets of visitor services including the development, coordination, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of programs and experiences for recreational, educational, and historical activities appropriate to all twelve parks in the Lake County, Indiana park system.  Responsible for outdoor education programs presented to park visitors of all ages.  Base location is Gibson Woods Nature Preserve in Hammond, Indiana, a facility of the Lake County Parks and a state of Indiana dedicated nature preserve.

Education:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university of recognized standing with a major in park administration, outdoor education, forestry, early education, or related field.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of current practices in parks and recreation and knowledge of programming, including program proposals, coordination and evaluation.  Demonstrated working knowledge of computers and ability to use word processing, database, and spread sheet programs.  Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate public programs and educational activities.  Ability to speak to the public and relay park information in a professional and courteous manner.  Ability to effectively work with others.  Ability to present ideas and recommendations verbally and in writing.  Knowledge of flora and fauna in the greater Northwest Indiana region. 

Additional Requirements:

Valid state of Indiana vehicle operator’s license.

Flexible schedule.  Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Must be a resident of Lake County Indiana

Salary:  

$28,956 (resumes accepted until June 6, 2008).  Full time position with medical, dental, and vision benefits package.
