Preparing for Winter at Buckley Homestead

Pound cut cabbage and mix with salt to make sauerkraut. Layer firm potatoes in straw and put crisp apples into baskets down in the root cellar. Shell dried beans and thinly slice pumpkins to hang and dry. Time to preserve food for the long winter months. Visit the 1910 and 1850 farms to learn more about how people used to prepare for the coming winter.

Park at the Visitor Center and enjoy the fall colors as you walk the trails and farms. Before you go, remember the holidays are right around the corner- stop by the Visitor Center Gift Shop for unique and affordable gifts.
