Forestry Merit Badge
Gibson Woods • Sunday, June 24 • 1 – 3 p.m. • Ages 11+ • 219-844-3188 to register
Scouts will learn to recognize forest habitat and characteristics of some trees common to the Calumet region. We will identify tree species and how they are important to wildlife and humans. We will identify and examine some causes of tree damage. Forestry management practices will be discussed. Participants should bring a sketchbook or camera to this workshop. Prerequisites: 3, 7.

Are you looking for fun and exciting ways to earn badges? Come to Gibson Woods Nature Preserve and let our staff help you explore the wonderful world of nature. We offer various workshops to fill some of the requirements for badges (badge not included in program). Call Gibson Woods at 219-844-3188 to find out what badge requirements will be covered in the workshops.

Troop Registration: Badge programming is $1 per person, including adults, with a $10 minimum and a 30 person maximum. Workshops are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. September through May. To register, call the park department office at 219-769-PARK. Groups must register at least two weeks in advance. Only one badge per workshop.

Individual sign-ups only – no groups
Spend the middle of the day discovering the nature you have in your own yard. We’ll be building our own house, meeting our neighbors and taking a close look at nature in our own neighborhood.

What makes a plant a plant? Plants are living breathing organisms. We could not live without them. Join us to learn more about the secret life of plants. Can they be cold or hot; happy or sad?
